My child won't stop playing — time management basics: schedule mode, slots and day types
Master the three core concepts of AIVI time management — schedule mode (workday & rest-day / by weekday), time slots (slot modes: limited minutes / points & quiz, combinable) and day type (regular / public holiday / make-up workday) — to build rules that lock the PC on schedule.
Getting Started
Install the client, bind the device and learn Guardian vs Setup mode — first-time setup in 10 minutes.
- Getting Started6 minWhat parental control software should I install? AIVI setup and binding, step oneInstall the AIVI client on the supervised Windows PC, finish initialization, set the parent password and bind it to your parent account — then manage time rules remotely from the web console. Four steps, about 10 minutes.
- Getting Started4 minCan my child change the rules? Guardian mode, Setup mode and the parent passwordAIVI has only two work modes: Guardian mode (rules enforced, lock screen active) and Setup mode (unrestricted, for parent configuration). Understanding both is the prerequisite for configuring time rules.
- Getting Started5 minSoftware management: update to the latest version, uninstall, and repair self-protectionCheck and install updates in one click from Settings → Software Management (updates keep usage records and rules); if it fails, download the installer from the official site and upgrade in place. The same page also handles uninstall, repairing protection, fixing auto-start, viewing logs and cloud backup/restore.
- Getting Started4 minSwitching server sites: China site, international site and agent sitesYou can switch sites in the install wizard, at the top of the first-run screen, and under Settings → Server site. The default is detected from the system country/region (mainland China → China site); switching needs no reinstall. It clears the local cloud account and parent password and forces re-initialization, but local slots and data are kept.
Time Management
Schedule modes, time slots and slot modes (limited minutes / points & quiz, combinable), eye-care breaks, holidays, lock screen and time tamper protection.
- Time Management6 minMy child won't stop playing — time management basics: schedule mode, slots and day typesMaster the three core concepts of AIVI time management — schedule mode (workday & rest-day / by weekday), time slots (slot modes: limited minutes / points & quiz, combinable) and day type (regular / public holiday / make-up workday) — to build rules that lock the PC on schedule.
- Time Management5 minDifferent rules for school days and weekends? Schedule mode: workday & rest-day vs by weekdayCompare workday & rest-day (two templates, stable routines — the default) with by weekday (one set per day, good for extracurriculars and split weekends), plus whether switching loses config and how to bulk-generate between the two.
- Time Management8 minHow do I set the hours my child may use the PC? Slots and limit modes (incl. points & quiz)A parameter-by-parameter walkthrough of the Edit Slot window: day type (regular / holiday / make-up), start and end time, slot modes (full access; limited minutes and points & quiz are two combinable checkboxes — the PC locks when either runs out), the Bind apps sub-window. Points & Quiz is a merged switch: spend points first, answer questions when they run out, fullscreen exclusive while answering.
- Time Management4 minHow do I force a break every 45 minutes? Global eye-care rest cycleEnable the global “use N minutes / rest M minutes” (commonly 45/10) on the Time Management page so the PC locks for a break periodically, combined with pre-lock reminders and a countdown.
- Time Management6 minHow do I schedule PC time for school breaks? Holiday data and make-up workdaysUse Holiday data management to mark summer/winter vacation, public holidays and make-up workdays so the PC schedule follows the school calendar. Covers all four import methods, formats, and why a one-time manual import is required.
- Time Management7 min“The PC locked by itself!” Six lock reasons, countdown reminders and auto shutdownLists the six lock triggers (including the specific reason shown on the lock screen), the buttons available on the lock screen, and recommended settings for the pre-lock reminder, countdown and auto shutdown after lock.
- Time Management5 minTemporary lock and unlock: take the PC away now, or allow a little extra timeTemporary management is a layer on top of your slot rules: a temporary lock takes the PC away immediately (bedtime violated, homework unfinished), a temporary unlock allows extra time (an online class needs the PC). They are mutually exclusive, set in minutes, apply instantly, and can also be issued remotely from the web console or WeChat.
Apps & Websites
Restricted app groups, study app groups, website blocking and Study Exclusive mode.
- Apps & Websites6 minHow do I block games and inappropriate sites? App groups and website blockingManage allowed software with the Restricted apps and Study apps groups, learn the two-layer model (three global switches plus per-slot binding), the four ways to add entries, and where website blocking applies.
- Apps & Websites5 minMy child sneaks into games during class — Study Exclusive mode and points multiplierStudy Exclusive is the strictest app control: everything outside study apps and the system allowlist is closed, including non-study browser tabs. Enable it globally on the App Management page or only for a homework slot; with a points multiplier, studying also earns time points.
Content Safety
Minor content protection, screenshots and app visit history, violation alerts, clock-tamper defence and the physical safety kill switch.
- Content Safety6 minWhat if my child sees inappropriate content? Content protection, levels and violation recordsIn Settings → Content protection, enable minor content protection plus screenshots and app visit history. Recognition runs locally on the child's PC: matches trigger a warning first, repeated violations can close the window, and records are kept for parents. Bind WeChat notifications to get an alert on your phone.
- Content Safety4 minCan my child just change the clock? Virtual clock and network time syncHow AIVI makes changing the Windows clock useless: an independent virtual clock, optional NTP sync every 30 minutes, forced lock on large drift, plus sleep/wake and boot rollback compensation — and how to clear a forced lock.
Points & Rewards
Three point systems — time, learning and traffic — manual reward/deduction, redeeming points for screen time, and earning points by answering questions.
- Points & Rewards6 minHow can studying earn game time? The three point systems: time, learning and trafficTime points are the child's “entertainment currency” (earned from study apps and manual parent rewards; 1 point = 1 minute), learning points come from answering questions, and traffic points pay for remote-screen data. Includes reward/deduct steps, redemption and incentive design tips.
- Points & Rewards7 minWhere do the questions come from? Question bank: grade, import and scoring rulesSettings → Question bank decides what the child practises and how much can be earned per day: grade limit (saved on selection), daily points and question caps, once-per-day scoring, difficulty scoring and subject bonus, plus entries to the question bank window (import/export JSON, textbook version management, batch generation).
- Points & Rewards8 minStudy before play: Points & Quiz slots and the quiz windowCheck Points & Quiz for a slot (merged from points use + quiz first since 2026-09-29): spend points first, answer fullscreen questions when they run out, and redeem anytime with remaining points while locked. Covers the child-side six-level selection flow.
Remote Care
Live screen from the web console, temporary lock/unlock, when remote rules take effect, and membership/remote-management expiry.
- Remote Care6 minHow do I know what my child is doing while I'm at work? Remote care and rule sync timingView the child's screen live from the web console, issue temporary lock/unlock, adjust slots and work mode remotely, and understand the full save → pending → heartbeat → applied chain and why there is usually a short delay.
- Remote Care5 minMy plan expired — does control still work? Membership levels and remote-management expiryCheck membership level, membership expiry and remote-management expiry under Settings → Membership (the free edition includes a 7-day trial; VIP / SVIP show “valid with membership”). Expiry only disables remote features in the web console — slots, lock screen and app rules already on the device keep running.
